Got any plans that day? Lets all use the oppurtunity to do something that spreads the word. Maybe if you live near a highpoint and you have nothing going on that day??? Or maybe just taking the time to share some info. Get creative, keep it simple, don't really matter as long as we can get the word out. Click on over to the "Media" tab and download the Summit for Soldiers flag PDF, print it out, and send us a picture and description of what you did and we will post!
The OIF/OEF/OND Outreach Clinic at the VA in Columbus Ohio sponsors an annual "Welcome Home" for the troops and veterans at the Columbus Zoo. This year it will be on Saturday 06July. And the wonderful folks at the Clinic have offered us a table/booth at this event! (Thank you Lois!) So, if you live in the Columbus Area, come on out to the zoo for some fun, and check out all the stuff that the VA and others will have available. We will be back at the pavilion. Oh, forgot to mention, its FREE for vet's and their families!
Barbara - Is this a free event for all veterans and their spouses? My husband was in the U.S.Army in early 60's. Thank you! SfS - Barbara, yes it is free to all veterans, active, reserve, past and present, and their immediate family. I believe the Zoo requests that the member bring either a Military ID, a VA ID Card, or a copy of a DD214 (discharge papers) I imagine any sort of proof of service might work. FYI, There may be a parking fee around $8.00. Looks like we may have our next big event. The team has wrapped up it's last round of deployments, and time to take back this hill. Been up this beast several times, but not for the cause yet... so, lets go do it. Big plans and hopefully a big turn out of support.
So many folks don't realize just how difficult it is for our troops to return home and begin to reintegrate with their civilian lives, jobs, families... Throw in the trauma of war and that process escalates immensely. Brothers and Sisters, you are not alone! We take care of each other on the battle field, and we will take care of each other here. There are tons of resources, programs, organizations that can help with just about every issue and need |
