Latest NewsState of the union: stay tuned for changesBackground:
We believe that you are our SfS family, which is why I would like to take a moment to bring you into the loop on our thoughts of the future with SfS. Summit for Soldiers is an all volunteer group of veterans, families and community supporters and we cherish each and every one of you who have been a part of our mission. When we started SfS is was the simple and personal mission of its founders that led to the idea of something bigger. When we incorporated as a 501(c)(3) organization, none of us came from a background experienced in running a non-profit and so we do what military folks do, we dove in and learned everything we could to hold the ship steady until the right people could be found to run it. After 11 yrs as a personal mission, and 6 hard and busy years as a 501c3 non-profit, the Covid shut down of 2020 has given us some time to do a little soul searching and possible contemplate some administrative changes. Returning to Our Roots: Running an organization has been challenging and exciting, but time spent on running the administration of a 501c3 consumes time and energy that was intended to be serving the actual mission. So, with that in mind we are discussing various options that can help us get back to better serving our veterans community. The main purpose for a non-profit status, and the main reason for all the strict governance that goes along with it, is to provide a means for tax-exempt donations. Donations certainly help us to accomplish many things, but is there a way that we can continue our Mission and Vision without donations? We believe that we can, because we did it before we were a non-profit. While no decision has been made, dissolving our non-profit status and returning to a simpler, more personal approach is certainly one option. What will not Change Our Mission has always been about removing isolation and building a network of support for one another. The trips and the outings have only been the "tool" that we use to accomplish that. The bigger trips we have been able to provide have been wonderfully successful (and thanks to you all who made that possible) but our mission can also be accomplished with simpler things like hikes, campouts and cookouts. No matter which direction we head, our Mission WILL NOT change. What we are asking of everyone is to please be patient with us as we sort thru the best direction, and if you have any questions or concerns at all please reach out to [email protected]. If you are wishing to support us with your Donations, please know how appreciative we are, but if we could ask that you please with hold your contribution until further notice. This would help us as we reorganize our administrative policies and practices to better serve our donors. Thank you for your time, and we look forward to unveiling our future direction.
